Jeff Hora is that rare individual with deep expertise in digital and social media marketing, technology, education, entrepreneurship and social psychology. This coupled with his passion for the success of the businesses he works with makes working with him an extremely valuable and unique experience.

Born in Iowa, the land of rich topsoil, hog farming, and covered bridges, he joined the Navy and the Navy Band right out of high school. Jeff played his way through Virginia Beach, Hawaii, Guam, San Diego, Rhode Island, Chicago, and Seattle. Moving to the rhythm of life, as Jeff transitioned out of the Navy to the business world he worked for a cloud computing company, a cellphone manufacturer, and a “little” computer company called Microsoft. Eventually he saw the light and moved across the Puget Sound to finally call Poulsbo his home.

Drawing from these experiences and awakened to the opportunities of the future of business by his graduate work at the University of Washington in Communications in Digital Media, he founded Social Sapiens as a means to fix what he describes as “the gaping hole” in social media marketing strategy. His purpose is to increase the effectiveness and the visibility of your online presence. How does a person post a status and have it shared? Where are your customers online? Which pictures are most effective and which are not, and why? How many kittens does it take for your business to go viral (the answer is: 5)? These are questions that Jeff answers daily. Since Social Sapiens’ founding, Jeff has quickly become a regularly requested speaker at area Chambers of Commerce, BE$T business strategy workshops, entrepreneur workshops, and was most recently he was the keynote speaker at Silverdale and Bremerton Chamber of Commerce & Kitsap SCORE’s Business Academy Series.

Background & Experience

As a Consultant, he developed and delivered customized technology workshops remotely for over 2,600 international developers, fostering a “trusted advisor” relationship with customers in both technology and operations.

As a Product Planner and Manager, he was responsible for an international team planning a broad portfolio of learning products generating $73 million+ annually. Working closely with the content authoring community around the opportunities and content authoring for all learning products, he fostered an environment where new thinking about community, social media, new business opportunities and metrics was encouraged.

As a Community Manager, he defined and implemented community and content strategies, broadening and deepening online customer engagement. He was consulted regularly as the subject matter expert on social media and digital channels, platforms, strategy, and implementation. One pilot project in community-sourced content grew from a single (non-employee) author to over 170 authors globally with revenue from zero to $5 million+ in the first 3 years.

Jeff’s educational background includes formal education, certifications and ongoing professional development. He holds a Bachelor of Music in Music Education degree from Iowa State University and a Master of Communication in Digital Media degree from the University of Washington. He has created and taught social media workshops and mentored job seekers on the effective use of social media to build their personal brand and find the right job. He co-created and taught the Social Media in Business course for the University of Washington Certificate in Social Media Technologies and Implementation.

He is a member of the American Marketing Association and MarketingProfs. Being a community-oriented fellow, he is also a member of Rotary International, and the Kingston, Silverdale, and Poulsbo Chambers of Commerce, as well as being Vice President of his church council.

He is presently owned by five cats, who make sure he pays attention to them.
